The Selangor government welcomes the proposal by Pahang to build a water treatment plant within its borders, as mooted by Pahang MB Adnan Yaakob. However it reiterated that there is no hurry to do so.

NONE "The state government believes that the water transfer project between the two states does not have to be implemented hastily," said Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim.

His priority is to complete the current restructuring of Selangor's water industry

Khalid ( right ) added that the delays in the restructuring process are being caused by the federal government dilly-dallying on the issue.

"Their stalling tactics are geared towards protecting crony companies and not protecting the people's interests," he jibed.

Khalid repeated his earlier assurances that any delay will not affect the supply of water in Selangor, as there is sufficient to last the state till 2019.

He also added that he is willing to work hand-in-hand with the federal government in order to source for low-cost alternative water resources like rainwater and underground water to reduce the occurrences of 'non-revenue water'.

adnan the man Khalid was responding to a statement by Adnan ( left ) as reported by English daily Star today saying that under the terms of the RM8 billion interstate raw water transfer project, Selangor was to build a plant in Hulu Langat to treat raw water from Pahang.

"If Selangor is not interested, I will instruct my officers to look for an alternative site on our side of the border to treat the raw water. Selangor appears to be delaying the approval for the required land," added Adnan.

He also warned that Khalid's administration will have to answer to the rakyat should there be a critical water shortage in the Klang Valley by 2014. He was speaking to reporters after delivering a keynote address at the Pahang Council of Principals conference in Kuantan yesterday.
