'Imam Muda' search may be extended to region

A Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Jamil Khir Baharom, wants the popular dakwah reality programme, ‘ Imam Muda ’ or Young Imam to be extended to the Southeast Asian region.
“If it is not extended to the region, probably it can start with Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore,” he told reporters after launching a Ramadan programme at the national level, in Putrajaya today.
He said the search for the ‘ Imam Muda ’ in Malaysia would be continued each year.
The programme, produced under a cooperation arrangement between Astro Oasis and the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department, had attracted great interest within and outside the country such as in Southeast Asia and Europe.
The first ‘Imam Muda’ programme, which ended last week, had received wide coverage by the international media including The Straits Times , Singapore; The Wall Street Journal; Associated Press (AP); British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC); Agence France-Presse (AFP); Reuters and ARD Germany TC .
Jamil Khir also disclosed that this season’s 'Imam Muda ' champion, Muhammad Asyraf Mohd Ridzuan, would leave for Gaza tomorrow to follow the humanitarian mission organised by Kelab Putera 1Malaysia.
