Local firm wins contract to manufacture Airbus A380 wing parts
A local aviation firm secured a RM139 million contract from Britain's BAE SYSTEMS-Aerostructures to manufacture wing components for the Airbus super-jumbo A380 aircraft.
Abdul Malek Packeer, chief executive officer of Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTRM) said yesterday that the contract was for the production of two packages of the Airbus A380 wing components over a eight year period.
The contract covers delivery of wing components made of carbon and glass fibres composites, he said.
Airbus has secured 100 orders for the A380 model so far, with Singapore Airlines and Dubai's Emirates to be the first carriers to use the aircraft.
Since its inception in 1990, CTRM has won contracts to manufacture composite wing parts for the full range of Airbus aircrafts.
Defence Minister Najib Razak, who witnessed the signing ceremony said that the contract strengthened CTRM's position as a key aerospace composites component supplier in the Asia-Pacific region. AFP
