The government is willing to hear out views from all parties on the subject of allowing undergraduates to be active in politics, said Deputy Higher Education Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

He said for a start, he would be attending a roundtable on the matter organised by the Malaysian Youth Council which would also be attended by student leaders and representatives of various non-governmental organisations.

Speaking to reporters Georgetown today, Saifuddin said he received a memorandum on this from undergraduates who attended a national undergrduates convention in Bangi yesterday and that once all necessary feedback was obtained, the findings would be brought up to the cabinet for further action.

He added that the University and University Colleges Act was amended last year to give undergraduates more freedom though not allowing them to be active in politics, but the government was willing to re-look this if there was justification.
