Don't get involved in politics, Dr M tells students

KSN: Here comes the wise guy with his unsolicited sermon. Most leaders of Asia and elsewhere were born during their university days. That is where boys and girls after their secondary education go to mingle, discuss and exchange their views and mould their characters, their philosophy about life, true friendships, etc. The is the growing up period as ‘adults’, if you like, and step into the real world to serve the nation in various capacities and roles .

Is this man, obsolete as he is and out-of-date for Malaysia's hopes and aspirations after destroying the very fibre of the country by leading it in the wrong direction, still vomiting stupid and wrong ideas to the young? Are there any takers (except Perkasa, Ibrahim Ali and the like whose number must be very small)?

Or am I wrong? Students please, those reading this article, make use of your time in the universities constructively, absorb as much as you can, and equip yourself with qualities beneficial to Malaysia's future.

Let the intellectuals decide on the future. The courts are already being messed with monkey judges. We can’t wait any longer.

Anonymous: It is a fact that a great many of our students will leave the country once they finish their studies, some for better opportunities, others to escape the racist political climate of Malaysia. But while all these students are in the country, they should be allowed to be outspoken and to express their opinions.

The government is threatened by the many intelligent students that have opinion, they prefer to dictate and deceive everyone that remains. I really do wish that the former PM would retire gracefully instead of saying silly things and sullying his legacy (some do think he did some good, I guess.)

Yuvan: We have lots of university students who are brainy, creative and downright practical. While it is imperative that they acquire the necessary qualification and skills and be equipped to face the future with confidence, the government should not fear or have undue doubts about their participation in politics.

In fact, the government should provide them with the proper channels to be meaningfully engaged in political discussions and debates. Students in universities play a pivotal role in nation building and their voice should be heard.

Sarajun Hoda: BN/Umno can go to schools and universities and talk politics. Others cannot? Where is the logic? Teachers can do politics, so why not university students? Isn't the university a place for learning? Isn't politics a subject matter, too?

Joe: Mahathir says students should not get involved in politics, but they can vote at 21. Umno can establish Umno clubs in foreign universities overseas to rope in Malay students who are government scholarship holders. At home in our local universities, when Umno loses the support of the student population to the opposition, Mahathir says it's bad for our students to engage in politics.

When Mahathir was president of Umno, he mandated the positions of president and deputy president to be uncontested. When he has retired from his party post, he advocates that all Umno positions be open to contest. The hypocrisy and double standards of Mahathir is astounding!

My sons are in university. They are in college not just to obtain a paper qualification. They are there to explore the world for themselves, expand their horizons, discover their potential and develop their character. Our students don't need some devious politicians with ulterior motives to tell them how to think or spend their time in college.

Sarajun Hoda: This ‘orang tua’ (old man) Mahathir ‘sudah nyanyok’ (senile). That’s why we have universities that are now like factories producing low quality and unemployable 'products' good only for the civil service. The longer Mahathir lives to talk nonsense, the worse this country is becoming. I think Umno leaders wants youngsters to remain stupid so they can continue to fool them.

He is above the laws of Malaysia. BN/Umno, MACC, you name it, will never touch him, let alone open an investigation.

Singa Pura Pura: How foolish of me to think that it was only in the darkest of continents, in lands ruled by criminal despots and other animalistic ogres, that rulers and their marauders become millionaires. Never thought that the largest state in Malaysia is run and raked like a private kingdom. Hope the end of the reign is nigh.

Lover Boy: Go outside Kuching and follow the houses along the Rejang river, you will see people living without pipe water, no electricity and houses so dilapidated that it makes the squatter houses in Kg Buah Pala look like palaces. Do you know, to them a red RM10 note is very big. Come election, Pek Mor (white hair) and his storm troopers will dish out sago, bicycles, sarongs and a pile of those red notes to these poor people.

For them, it is like Wee Choo Keong getting RM10 million for being a frog. The wind of change has only touched the urban areas, but the poor Sarawakians can still be bought.

Rubystar: Taib amassed his fortune not by business shrewdness or good judgement but through corruption and the raping of the state's coffers for close to 30 years. Sarawakians, please wake up and do not let this ‘white monster’ to continue raping the state.

Umno has been shouting, screaming and labeling those who reveal their corrupt ways traitors but they do not see that it is their own kind who are traitors.
