The cabinet today decided to withhold until Feb 28 next year action to blacklist motorists to prevent them from renewing their driving licence and road tax unless they paid all outstanding traffic summonses.

Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha said the decision was made after taking into consideration the reasons, complaints and appeals from the public.

The period until Feb 28 would cover the major festivals - Aidilfitri, Deepavali, Christmas and Chinese New Year, he said after chairing a post-Cabinet meeting at the ministry in Putrajaya.

"Nevertheless, no discount will be given to those who have outstanding summonses and the summonses will not be quashed either," he said.

After Feb 28 next year, the blacklisting would be enforced again, he said.

"I advise those who have been issued notice of the summonses to settle them in one go or in instalments.

"Those who settle the payments during the relaxation period will not be penalised with demerit points," he said.
