The Selangor state government has "invited" the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to station their officers at the embattled sand mining company Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd.

azlan Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said that the offer to MACC is to "improve public confidence" in the sand and minerals mining company wholly-owned and formed by the state government in 2008.

"The MACC officers can then look at the operations and administration of KSSB closely so that abuse of power or corruption does not happen," he said.

Announcing several other measures to make KSSB appear transparent, Khalid also said that he had ordered the company to appoint several independent auditors to pore through the books and accounts.

azlan He said that the company will be advertising to fill vacancies for two managerial positions.

"The state government believes that there have yet to be any sand mining companies in any other states to have taken the steps that KSSB has done. In fact, we are challenging the other BN-led states especially Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Johor, where the sand mining activities are highly suspect, to take the same steps," said the MB.

KSSB has been embroiled in one controversy after another where charges of corruption and cronyism had surfaced, highlighted by PKR's Kapar MP S Manikavasagam earlier this year.

Since then, it became one of the main talking points for BN politicians in their "Save Selangor" roadshow.

Khalid also announced the appointment of Wan Ab Halim Wan Ismail as the new chief executive officer for KSSB effective July 26.
