A restaurant operator in his 30s almost severed his right ear lobe when he was attacked by about 10 men outside his eating premise in Kuala Ampang near here today.
Ampang Jaya deputy police chief Supt Amiruddin Jamaluddin said three suspects, including an Ampang Jaya municipal councillor were picked up at the scene shortly after the incident which occurred at about 5am.
He said the police found a machete on the seat of the councillor's car.
"The police are looking for seven or eight more suspects aged between 27 and 36. The motive of the attack had yet to be established," he told reporters here today.
He said the victim was admitted to the Ampang Hospital.
The three suspects are remanded until Thursday and the case is investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting, he added.
Meanwhile, Ampang Jaya police chief Abdul Jalil Hassan said three burglars carted away RM10,000 in jewellery in a break-in at the home of the councillor's mother here at noon on Thursday.
"The councillor's mother and her maid were in the house during the break-in," he said, adding that, both cases were not related.
