DAP’s party organ The Rocket finally received its permit today for its Chinese and English editions.

DAP publicity secretary and editor Tony Pua however said two conditions were imposed.

NONE The letter from the Home Ministry states that The Rocket ’s distribution should be restricted to members only.

The second condition is that distribution and sales of the newsletter is only allowed in DAP’s offices and party bases.

Although the permit took longer than expected, Pua thanked Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein for its approval.

“It took one month for the approval. But in the end we got it,” Pua told Malaysiakini .

He added that it is however unfortunate that there are conditions imposed on the publication.

“We have no choice but to accept the conditions. I hope that the subsequent application process will be faster than this,” he added.

Apparently the permit for the English version expired in June, whereas the Malay- and Chinese-language editions expired in September and November, respectively, last year.

NONE The Rocket also received two show-cause letters on July 13, one for the English edition and the other for its Chinese edition.

Subsequently, Home Ministry secretary-general Mahmood Adam met Pua ( right ) and Teresa Kok in regard to the show-cause letter issued to them.

Meanwhile the ministry had yet to decide on the fate of PKR’s party organ Suara Keadilan .

However the party has taken advantage of a loophole in the regulations by printing its editions under different names, as non-serialised publications do not require a permit from the ministry.

The latest publication, the sixth, is called Metro Keadilan , which follows Keadilan, Obor Keadilan,  Sinar Keadilan, Utusan Keadilan and Berita Keadilan .

Last month, the ministry also renewed the permit of PAS newsletter Harakah after its publisher gave a satisfactory explanation and assurances to heed all permit regulations as required by the ministry. Harakah ’s permit expired on July 7.
