Senator Ezam Mohd Nor may land in trouble with the religious authority over an alleged qazaf (false accusation) made against PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim in Twitter postings.

This follows a report lodged by PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin with the Federal Territories Religious Department (Jawi) over a post this afternoon.

NONE One of the contentious postings by Ezam reads: "I have seen how revolting (it is), for political power a wife would let her husband defame others to conceal his despicable habit of sodomy."

The report was made under Section 41of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997, which makes it an the offence for a person to accuse another of zina (illicit sex) without providing four witnesses or the testimony of the accused.

The Malay daily report quoted Ezam challenging PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to take a stand and swear over another allegation Ezam had made.

The former PKR youth leader, who is now with Umno, had earlier alleged that Wan Azizah had contacted him to warn people off from being close to Anwar.

Shamsul explained that while Ezam's post in Twitter did not directly name Anwar and Wan Azizah, it clearly referred to the opposition leader, based on the context and the issue at that particular time.

Ezam certainly does not have the four credible witnesses to back the claim, he added.

"It is just a desperate attempt to garner popularity," he said, and dared Ezam to provide the witnesses.
