A DAP member who claimed he was assaulted by Umno supporters during the Kuching toll plaza closure bash on Tuesday lodged a police report regarding the incident this afternoon.

Party administration assistant Allan Lim Ching How (centre), 39, lodged the report with the Sentul police station in Kuala Lumpur. He was accompanied by DAP international secretary and member of Parliament for Seputeh, Teresa Kok(left) and her assistant, Khong Chee Seng (right).

In his report, Lim said he was assaulted by a group of youths believed to be Umno supporters until he became unconscious.

He claimed he was attacked when he questioned the youths on why they had snatched DAP posters and thrown them on the street.

"Suddenly, they charged towards me just like a group of gangsters," he said when met at the police station later.

Photographic evidence

Kok, who had witnessed the incident, said DAP was upset with the pro-government supporters' thug-like attitude.

"This time, we have photographic evidence to prove who actually started the chaos," she said.

She added that some of the youths had also thrown firecrackers at opposition leaders who were there.

The scuffle lasted for about three minutes but those present managed to control the situation despite the absence of police personnel.

Also present were DAP chairperson Lim Kit Siang, PAS central committee member Dr Hatta Ramli and Keadilan supreme council member Xavier Jayakumar.

The pro-government supporters were led by Federal Territory Umno chief Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Bandar Tun Razak MP Tan Chai Ho and former Bukit Bintang MP Lee Chong Meng.

'Sickening behaviour'

When contacted, Federal Territory Umno liason committee secretary Syed Ali Alhabshee claimed it was the opposition supporters who had behaved in an unruly manner.

"Not only did they kick Tengku Adnan's car, they even climbed onto the roof of the toll plaza. The way they behaved was really sickening," he said.

Syed Ali, who is also Cheras Umno division chief, disagreed with DAP leaders that the incident was triggered by Umno supporters.

"Everyone there know how the opposition members acted," he added.

About 8,000 people turned up at the closure of the toll plaza which was seven-years overdue.

The Jalan Kuching toll was introduced in 1985 following the RM89.95 million upgrading of the road. It was to end in 1996 but the toll collection was extended.

By Aug 31 last year, toll collection stood at RM333.6 million, four times more than the amount invested.
