Deputy Higher Education Minister  Saifudin Abdullah will convene a meeting with PAS Youth chief Salahuddin Ayob and Gerakan Youth chief Lim Si Pin soon to discuss the latest calls to allow university students to get involved in politics.

He said the meeting was vital to ensure that all views were taken into consideration before any decision on the issue was made.

"Even Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak is open to the idea, so it can still be discussed. We have to keep an open mind on this issue," he told reporters after opening telco DiGi's Youth Jam programme in Georgetown, Penang today.

"Although the number of students who are interested in politics is small, their rights to get involved cannot be denied.

"We have to understand the objective of the proposal because sooner or later it will become a reality," he added.
