The Terengganu Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAT) has proposed to provide sign language interpretations for the Friday sermon at mosques in the state for the benefit of the hearing-impaired.
Its commissioner Sheikh Harun Ismail said its implementation would depend on the demand from the local community.
"For a start, we introduced sign language interpretation at the Al-Abrar Mosque in Kampung Bukit Tok Beng for hearing-impaired students," he told reporters in Kuala Terengganu today.
Sheikh Harun said JHEAT would ask district religious officers to make the necessary arrangements should there be requests from the public.
