"We are prepared to join the debate," declared Rafizi's running mate Amiruddin Shari, who is eyeing the deputy Youth chief's post.
The event, organised by a groups of bloggers know as 'Eureka', is set scheduled for Sept 18 at a resort in Taiping, Perak.
It was made known that contenders for positions in the Youth had been invited to the event and make clear their plans for the movement during the debate.
Besides Rafizi, other aspirants, including incumbents Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, supreme council member Badrul Hisham Shaharin and Johor division leader Hasmi Hashim are also believed to have been invited.
However, the rest have yet to officially declare their candidacy or intention to contest.
Speaking at a press conference in Petaling Jaya yesterday morning, Amiruddin said that the debate fashioned after the US presidential example is expected to set a new course within PKR as well as for other political parties.
He added that it would solve the question related to Rafizi's popularity, as the debate would enhance their image and the long campaigning period will allow more exposure among the grassroots.
"We did not arrange for the debate. But we figured that this is the best method to convey our opinions and there had been no constraint against us from doing so. Even if there are other organisers we are willing to participate," he said.
"In this party, even if we fight, we are still brothers. Our brotherhood will not split," added Amiruddin.
All the contestants, including those who have to yet announce their candidacy, have agreed to the debate, the organiser Mat Saman Kati informed Malaysiakini .
The debate is expected to run into two sessions - the first being a 20-minute speech titled "Leading Aspirations of Youths: Mission & Vision", followed by a question-and-answer session with the grassroots and bloggers.
