'Santa Claus has a flying sleigh. Harry Porter has a flying broomstick. Ali Baba has a flying carpet. So why can't Pak Haji have a flying beca?'
TV3 ad canned after flak over 'Santa' Pak Haji
Kongkek: Hari Raya or Aidilfitri is a religious celebration, not a fairy tale. The creator of the advertisement should understand that, but it's TV3 CEO Farid Ridzuan who should be held responsible, not the creator, who is a non-Muslim.
If, for whatever reasons, Farid wanted to 'apple polish' his political masters who control Media Prima, by portraying the 1Malaysia political concept, he must remember that it has nothing to do at all with Islam. Remember that, Farid. Please repent.
Amir Efendy: It is important, especially Muslims, to understand the meaning of Aidilfitri. It is a day not just with ketupat rendang or bunga api . I don't have the intention to give a sermon here, but it is better for the Muslims, especially the Malays, to learn more about what Aidilfitri is all about.
For the non-Muslims, the least you could do is respect. Do seek advice from a good Muslim friends before shouting here in the threads. Let's keep up our national spirit. For me, it was wise for TV3 to take off the advertisement.
Md Imraz Ikhbal: I totally disagree with both PAS and Muslims at large. My religion is Islam and whatever was depicted in the advertisement video has absolutely nothing to do with any religion. It is merely a depiction of our cultural diversity and Islam advocates that.
AJ: Why does everything need to be so sensitive? It's just someone's form of creativity. Just like Santa, the Christmas tree also has absolutely nothing to do with Christianity. It doesn't reduce their faith even if it's there year after year. Faith is what you hold on to on the inside. 1Malaysia really has to walk a super-thin line.
Lim Chong Leong: We do not have to be so sensitive, because not everyone understands us, but it does not mean their action insult us. Let it be and we can always educate our young not to be swayed and others of our sensitivities in a nice way. Stepping on a cow's head in public is not a nice thing to do and those people knew that. But was there was a hue and a cry over that?
Matrix: This is all a good laugh. Must be it's someone's idea to polish PM Najib Razak's shoes. Anyway, it was downright stupid. Anyone can see it is mimicking Santa Claus with the rickshaw. Luckily, they didn't put in cows to pull the rickshaw. One very stupid attempt at shoe-shining Umno.
DOC: Santa has a flying sleigh. Harry Porter has a flying broomstick. Ali Baba has a flying carpet. So why can't Pak Haji have a flying beca?
'Will I end up buried like Ghafar Baba?'
Rubystar: Dear Zaid Ibrahim, party in-fighting is always acrimonious and every politician must have the stomach to face it. I admire your valiance, your courage, your sincerity and your tenacity in your struggle for a true, progressive and equal society in Malaysia to emerge.
Your struggle is not driven by wealth-seeking, a power grab or an ego trip towards an elevated position. Yours is a genuine selfless action of a modern Malay who sees equality, justice, fair play, meritocracy, harmony and a corruption-free society as the means to be a progressive society.
Swipenter: As they say, politics is the dirtiest business in town, but politicians must not lose their idealism to strive for a better government and society for the people. It is only idealism that can propel human society to the next higher level.
Proarte: As Raja Petra Kamarudin mentioned in one of his articles, Anwar Ibrahim may have left Umno, but Umno may not have left him. Anwar is simply not fit to lead Malaysia with a new paradigm which the nation is crying out for.
As the late MGG Pillai said of Anwar, "He is just the same as them, but in better packaging". His duplicity and treachery knows no bounds. He camouflages this with his time honoured abuse of Islam for political purposes."
Anonymous: PKR is party formed by sidelined Umno members. It will taken years to purge the corrupt within. At any time, the turncoats will rear their heads when the offer is right. So few of them are honest. That is my biggest fear.
Umno is beyond redemption. What will PKR be when they come to government ? Hope lies only in that they will make our judiciary system independent and accord press freedom. Then a check-and-balance system will be established.
Police must answer for alleged 'balik China' flare-up
Justice seeker: It is really disgraceful for some Malaysians to ask a fellow Malaysian Chinese or Indian to ‘balik Cina' or India. There are some who, in blogs, claim that the Malays will one day unite and chase the non-Malays from this land simply because they claim they are the ‘tuan'. They say their forefathers were kind enough to grant citizenship to the Chinese and Indians.
But they fail to realise that the British had insisted that they be given citizenship if Malaysia were to gain independence. Of late, after the 2008 tsunami, the corrupted Umno leaders who fear losing their grip on power have been instigating perpetrators to incite racial unrest.
They also fail to realise that the good life these racists are leading is partly due to the Chinese who have contributed tremendously to the country's development. Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself once said that if there were no Chinese in Malaysia, it would be like one of the African countries - devoid of any development. So please, don't destroy everything.
