Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin hopes the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2010, approved by Parliament, would encourage healthy competition in terms of prices at every level and benefit consumers.

NONE Khairy ( right ) said consumers always blamed traders and also the government for any price increase but in actual fact, the price increase starts at the manufacturing or production level.

"We hope the government will view every stage or supply chain to enable competition at every stage and not just at the traders because traders have complained that there have been attempts to fix prices.

"Price increase starts at the production level. So I hope the Act will provide provisions for competition at all levels because if we do that prices will be hiked as they wished," he told reporters after launching an awareness campaign for consumers in Kuala Lumpur today.

Khairy earlier had a dialogue session with representatives from Tesco, Giant, Carefour and Mydin hypermarkets on the issue of price increase during festive seasons.
