The heavy downpour over the past few days in the upper stretches of Belaga and Kapit has left Sibu Division residents, like Sim Kok Kee, in jitters.

NONE "We are monitoring the water level in the Rajang river. It is high due to the seasonal king tide which will remain until Monday," he told Bernama today.

Currently, the water levels at Belaga, Kapit and Julau were two to three metres below the 'alert' level.

About three weeks ago, the town was at the mercy of four days of floods, aggravated by the king tide. At the height of the floods, more than 20 schools were closed as access roads were affected.

Sim said according to the weather forecast, isolated thunderstorms and rain were expected in the next six days in the state, beginning unfortunately tomorrow, the first day of Hari Raya celebrations.
