KUALA LUMPUR More than 220 kilogrammes of meat of protected animals worth about RM20,000 (US$5,263) have been seized from a restaurant in Malaysia, a report said yesterday.

The Federal Wildlife and National Parks Department arrested the restaurant owner, the New Straits Times said.

Director of enforcement Misliah Mohamad Basir said the meat seized was that of the Mainland Scrow, Malayan Porcupine, wild boar, civet cat, monitor lizard, monkey and deer.

She said the team also confiscated three pangolins from a restaurant next-door.

Misliah said the owner would be charged with illegal possession of animals covered by the Wildlife Protection Act, and with smuggling.

If found guilty, he could face a fine of up to RM3,000 or three years jail or both. AFP
