Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Dr George Chan, 74, is keeping mum over his political plans.

The deputy chief minster refused to comment on whether he would defend the his Piasau state seat in the upcoming state election.

He would only say there was a time and place to state his position.

NONE However, when asked if he is still needed, Dr Chan said, it is not for him to decide.

 

"It up to the party and people," he told reporters here.

Last year, Chan, had said he would not be defending the Piasau state seat of which he has been the incumbent since 1983.

He said then that several young leaders had been identified as potential candidates for the seat.

After winning the Miri state seat unopposed in 1983, Chan defended it in 1987.

In the 1991 state election, he retained the seat, which had been renamed Piasau and has been its assemblyman since.
