Police found the body of a baby in a decomposed state in a river in Kampung Jambu, Taiping, today.

Taiping district police chief ACP Yusof Mohd Diah said the baby, whose sex had yet to identified, was found at 10am by members of the public.

"The body was recovered with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Services and sent to Taiping Hospital for a post-mortem," he added.

He also said initial investigations showed that the baby was thrown into the river about three days ago.

Police are trying to trace the mother of the baby and those with information on the incident can contact 05-8291222.

Meanwhile, a man was killed when the car he was driving crashed into a tree on Jalan Leong Boon Swee here early this morning.

District traffic chief DSP Mohd Rodzi Rejab identified the victim as victim Mohamad Ikmal Mohd Kamal from here.

Mohd Rodzi sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.
