The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) has appointed Mah Siew Keong as chairman of Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) effective Sept 16, 2010.
In a statement today, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Mustapa Mohamed, said the ministry would be able to leverage on Mah's wide-ranging expertise and knowledge in international trade to spearhead Matrade.
"The country's economy is at a crossroads as it moves into the next phase of its development.
"In order to successfully navigate the uncertain and often volatile international trade environment, it is reassuring to know that Matrade will be able to call upon someone of Mah's calibre and experience," he said.
Mah was a former deputy minister at Miti as well as a former deputy minister at the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry.
The Gerakan vice-president lost his Teluk Intan seat to DAP’s M Manogaran in the 2008 general elections.
