Najib saddened by rise of extremism in Malaysia

Jaguh: As much as I am happy to hear the right messages coming from PM Najib Abdul Razak, I am sad that he is alone in his struggle to implement fairness.

Dear PM, show us that you walk the talk. Send a show-cause letter to Utusan Malaysia , resolve the Siti Inshah Mansor case, amongst others, warn your fellow colleagues that those who don't tow the line gets the boot. A united cabinet is a cabinet that the rakyat will respect and you won't feel insecure during the next general elections.

Lee Kuan Yew did all the right things - while being fair to all, he promoted meritocracy. That's the way forward. No handouts. Show us your mettle and erase the 'only can talk' image you are currently labelled with.

David: Saddened? Then do something about the racism emerging from your party and its 'affiliates'. Don't just sit there acting helpless and all innocent.

Unconvinced Mr Prime Minister, you don't convince me. Are you sending a warning of an impending witch-hunt? Please define extremism. If extremism means:

1) Questioning your flawed economic policies

2) Asking you to be accountable

3) Demanding for equality

4) Agitating for human rights

5) Defending the poor, marginalised and silenced

6) Rising up against state sponsored terrorism, or

7) Screaming to be heard, then, yes, Mr Prime Minister, I am an extremist.

Dood: Najib only needs to look at his own party to find the source of the extremism.

Anonymous: For your information, Mr PM, your 1Malaysia slogan can't do much to change the people's bad perception of Umno/BN. It is just an empty slogan and a wastage of good public funds. Utusan Malaysia should have been suspended a long time ago.

SusahKes: Mr PM, if you could only direct this message to those chaps at your own backyard, maybe at the Umno general assembly...

Swipenter: Najib, talking can only get you so far. Your Umno-owned group of newspapers is promoting racial chauvinism, yet you do nothing about it. There is also a certain NGO fighting to preserve and perpetuate the ketuanan Melayu policy, you do nothing about them.

But the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) acts swiftly against those who are fighting to restore democracy, transparency and accountability, fairness and justice, rule of law and good governance in the country.

In short, you allow extremism to flower as long as it benefits Umno/BN and you use it to whack those who oppose such extremism. Reporters can be placed under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for reporting the truth, opposition politicians can be detained on drummed-up charges - rule of law ignored and replaced by rule by law.

Najib, you can be tough but you must also be fair and impartial to everyone. You cannot have 1Malaysia yet two systems. They are mutually exclusive.

KSN: Yes, the whole country, excluding the fanatics, are sad about the extremism among us. You have been saying a few things that the country has been waiting to hear from our prime minister. Now is the time to follow up with a second step.

From the current scenario, the whole of Umno is not with you on your national aspirations, but people of all walks and all communities will back and support you if you act boldly and leave aside narrow political considerations.

There may be resistance initially, and the ultras, especially, may backstab you. Sad to say, most of them are from Umno but if you act with determination, they have no choice but to follow, knowing that the people are with you.

Under whatever name you make it to be, implement the New Economic Policy (NEP) fairly without fear or favour. You will not get a second chance as your compatriots in Umno are working to topple you like they did with Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

It is the same gang who are now undermining you and your policies. You know them, right? Show the country you are a real national leader and act now.

Aramsa: Dear PM, are you referring to your DPM and his cohoots, Perkasa, the cow-head protesters, and those who called minorities pendatangs . Remember, if you are pointing your fingers at those who are suffering from your hypocrisy, there are three fingers pointing at you.

Freemsia: Sometimes it just shocks me how PM Najib will keep on saying he is against racism and extremism but yet his very own party, Umno, is condoning it. Even the Home Ministry led by his very own cousin (Hishammuddin Hussein) allows Perkasa to publish its own newspaper.

Hopium: Najib should record his speech and play it 1,000 times a day to himself and his party members, so they get auto-suggested and turn into better beings. Stop playing the good Mr PM - it is not convincing when you have just your saliva frothing, while your actions are absent.

Mohd Hazwan: Malaysians should learn to appreciate when national leaders make an effort to condemn extremism. That's the only way forward for this country. It would be unwise to condemn them lest we believe extremism is good for us.

Steve Oh: Prime ministers are not paid to lament but to lead. PM Najib may be sad but the rakyat is sadder because while the PM has the power to act, the rakyat do not.

Who are the extremists? Tell us and we will help the government get rid of them. Or is it all a farce to make people choose the lesser of two evils? Come on PM Najib, the rakyat have grown up at the last general elections. It is time you stop the extremists instead of flattering those who are sick of them.

Don't beat around the bush and make equivocal statements but plainly do your job and deal with those extremists who everyone can see comes from your own political backyard.
