Former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has supported a proposal that those aspiring to positions of authority undergo the '1Malaysia test'.

"I believe that it will make the people live peacefully and happily as they do not have a racist attitude," he said after hosting an Aidilfitri open house in Kepala Batas today.

Abdullah said it was important for Malaysians to practice the 1Malaysia concept by not going overboard on sensitives issue affecting race and religion.

"I am confident that the '1Malaysia test' can avert unwanted incidents like racial conflicts."

He said Malaysia's success and progress was due to cooperation of all races and that the people should hold on to the Constitution and Rukun Negara.

"We must appreciate the good derived from close racial ties as it is unique to Malaysia," he added.

Najib had yesterday urged Malaysian to take the 1Malaysia test by asking themselves whether their actions could affect people of other races and religions.

"Would you be promoting harmony and unity or inciting hatred towards your own race?

"Could your actions lead to better understanding among people of different races or the contrary?"
