The gap in nominations for the closely-watched race for deputy presidency in PKR widens as party vice-president Azmin Ali gets the nod from many of the party divisions that met today.

Nine divisions that have announced their nominations - including three in Sabah - gave their backing to Azmin (Indera Mahkota, Raub, Libaran, Silam, Kudat, Tanah Merah). Unofficial results have also indicated that three other divisions have nominated him.

azlan This brings a total of 13 divisions to have nominated the Gombak MP since nominations started yesterday.

Azmin’s main challenger, supreme council member Zaid Ibrahim, has so far picked up two additional nominations today (Jerantut), giving him a total tally of five.

Perak PKR has also shown solid support to their chairperson Mustaffa Kamil Ayub when five of their divisions nominated him for deputy presidency, bringing his total tally of six.

The Cameron Highlands division, also from Pahang, has however given their endorsement to the PKR elections strategist and Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh for party number two.

41 divisions are to meet today nationwide - Sabah (10), Perak (9), Pahang (7), Kelantan (4), Perlis (3), Negeri Sembilan (2) and Kedah (1).

Anwar receives first nomination

azlan As expected, party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has been left unchallenged to date, garnering the support of all 17 divisions across the country that have concluded their AGMs thus far, out of a total 205.

Interestingly, de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, who has on Tuesday said that he would not accept nominations for any party post, received his first nomination for president today from Arau, Perlis.

As it stands,  Tian Chua still needs one more nomination to qualify for the race for deputy presidency on top of his nomination from Pokok Sena division yesterday.

In the second day of nominations, 13 have qualified in the race for the four vice-president's posts with Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin leading the race with eight nominations.

Meanwhile, Fuziah and incumbent VP R Sivarasa are trailing with seven nominations each.
