DAP backs Mahathir's 'third world war' warning
DAP has thrown its support behind Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's 'third world war' warning in Davos yesterday.
In a press statement today, DAP national chairperson Lim Kit Siang said that an all party roundtable conference should be convened to set an example for all countries of the world to achieve national and international consensus of "No War in Iraq".
Lim said the conference in Malaysia should be an example for all political parties all over the world, except for the US and UK, to achieve the consensus.
"It is also to demonstrate that all political parties in Malaysia, whether in government or opposition, are united in their stand on 'No War in Iraq' regardless of their political differences," he added.
Mahathir had warned of a 'third world war' in his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos and made a stand that Iraq is a 'side issue' to the fight against terrorism.
Oil and American hegemony
Lim said it was clear than an American war is not about terror, weapons of mass destruction or democracy but oil and American hegemony.
"There are powerful evidence that weapons of mass destruction is a mere pretext for US President George Bush to go on a warpath," he added.
Lim said an American war against Iraq is a 'foolish diversion' from fighting terror as it is a sure-way to fan the flames of terrorism .
