Malaysia has registered a positive growth in trade volume with a tremendous 28.9 percent increase over the last six months as trade figures reached RM569.3 billion, compared with the same period last year.

NONE Deputy International Trade and Industries Minister Mukhriz Mahathir ( left ) said the figures showed that export increased 26.1 percent to RM315.8 billion while import volume increased 32.5 percent to 253.5 billion.

"This shows the confidence towards Malaysia's economy which has seen a dramatic growth and in terms of production of manufactured goods, it has also shown a healthy performance compared with the same period last year.

"Early last year we were concerned because demand and orders from overseas dropped alarmingly forcing a number of factories to wind-up operations or relocate but that has changed as demand for goods produced in Malaysia has increased," he told reporters after attending a Hari Raya Open house hosted by the Jerlun Parliamentary and Jerlun Umno Division at Kodiang near Jerlun today.    As for investment projects, the Ministry has approved 334 projects involved in manufacturing worth RM8.9 billion from January to May, he said.

"From the total foreign investment accounted for RM4.4 billion while the remaining RM4.5 billion was through local investment," he said.

Mukhriz who is also the MP for Jerlun said the economic growth registered by Malaysia was a positive sign that the governments efforts and strategy was beginning to produce positive results.
