Police shot a 19 year-old suspect in the leg after he ignored several warnings to stop in Jalan Dedap in Taman Johor Jaya two days ago.
Johor acting police chief Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the suspect and a 16 year-old suspect had acted aggressively in their attempt to escape the police.
"The suspects who were in a Proton Waja car tried to run down a police officer on a motorcyle," he said in a statement in Johor Bahru today.
Jalaluddin said the suspects abandoned their car and tried to escape on foot after it was involved in an accident with a car in Jalan Dedap 24.
He said that police officers gave chase and fired two warning shots in the air after four warnings to stop were ignored.
"My officer fired one shot hitting a suspect in the calf. The suspect was then arrested and sent to Sultan Ismail Hospital for treatment.
"Police action is in line with provision under Section 15 of Criminal Procedure Code."
The suspect was later discharged and investigation found that the Proton Waja had been reported stolen on Sept 15 in Desa Cemerlang.
Jalaluddin said police also seized five Erimin 5 pills from the suspect.
The other suspect who escaped surrendered at Johor Jaya police station yesterday. He tested positive for drugs.
The two suspects were remanded until Friday for investigation under Section 307/186 of Penal Code.
