Former transport minister Ong Tee Keat today furnished evidence of his rejecting a memorandum issued by his senior private secretary for Malacca vehicle registration plates bearing MCA 1 to MCA 9999 to be reserved for MCA members.

ong tee keat on mca car plate 240910 04 Ong, who is also the member of Parliament for Pandan, showed a copy of a letter dated March 16 in which he had minuted his rejection of the memorandum because he did not agree with such a move.

“What was revealed by Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha was the memorandum dated Feb 17 and signed by my senior private secretary then.

“At the time, I was on sick leave following heel surgery. No decision was taken on this until I returned to work in early March.

ong tee keat on mca car plate 240910 03 “On March 16, outstanding cases were brought before me, some of which I approved and others I rejected, including this case (rejected),” he said when met at the KLIA International Airport in Sepang.

He also ticked off Kong for not ascertaining the facts and contacting him for clarification.

On the statement issued by Road Transport Department director-general  Solah Mat Hassan yesterday that the directive was still in force unless rescinded, Ong ( left ) said the confusion arising could have been sorted out if Kong, as the minister, had taken the trouble to check with him the status on the matter.
