Information Communication and Culture Minister Rais Yatim has instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to immediately investigate a YouTube video clip depicting a man believed to be a priest delivering a talk during which he insults Islam and Prophet Muhammad.

Rais said he had asked MCMC to record the necessary details, such as when the video clip was broadcast and the content of the speech.

"We will conduct an investigation as soon as possible under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

"I will personally make sure that this case is brought to the attention of the authorities soon," he told reporters after opening a seminar on 'Issues and Challenges in Preserving Audiovisual Archives in the Tropical Region' in Kuala Lumpur.

Blogger Zainol Abideen, who is pro-tem president of the Muslim Bloggers Association (MBA), yesterday drew attention to the video clip, apparently of the 'priest' delivering a talk at a church in Kuching recently.

Rais said the issue was a serious matter and the ministry would take action so long as the video clip was broadcast in Malaysia for users of the Internet.

"I will contact the enforcement authorities to give immediate attention to all the MCMC reports and investigations (on the matter)," he said.
