The scholarship of two Mara-sponsored medical students studying overseas have been revoked after they were found to be involved in organising anti-government activities. The two were studying in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Mara director-general Zamani Mohd Nor said today that the student in the UK was in his final year.

He had been under Mara scholarship for seven years while the student in Ireland was a third-year student, he said.

quoted Zamani as saying that this was the first time the agency had taken such a drastic action against students.

"We've to take stern action to deter other students from staging similar activities. We hope the action will send a clear signal to other students who are involved and those yet to be involved to stay away from anti-government activities," he said.

Apart from the two students, Zamani said Mara was also investigating the cases of seven students from Ireland who were allegedly involved in organising anti-government activities.
