Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been given the responsibility to ensure the Government's Transformation Plan (GTP) achieved significant success through various initiatives in the National Key Results Area (NKRA).     

Muhyiddin said the decision to hand over the responsibility to him was made by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak a few weeks ago.     

"I have been given the responsibility to ensure all six areas under the NKRA that were placed under a number of ministers, are not only monitored but pro-active measures initiated to ensure targets are achieved," he said after opening the Melbourne Malaysia Hall here today.

Muhyiddin said he would work with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Idris Jala who is the chief executive officer of the Performance Management & Delivery Unit (Pemandu) to achieve GTP's target.     

He said a meeting would also be held with ministers in charge of NKRA, involving areas like reduction of crime, corruption, improve infrastructure in rural areas and improve the public transportation system.     

"I have not set a date to meet the ministers yet, just like how the Prime Minister did before, so as to get reports and the necessary measures needed to make sure all areas achieved the optimum success," he said.  

Muhyiddin said the government had set a specific time frame for each ministry to fulfill the objectives.     

"I will sit with Hishammuddin to hear the NKRA involving security in the country and to see if the target has been achieved, and if other measures need to be implemented if the target has been achieved," he said.     

Earlier, Muhyiddin who held a dialogue with Malaysian students in Melbourne who requested for a Malaysian Consulate in Melbourne, the deputy prime minister said it cannot be implemented.     

Meanwhile in his speech, Muhyiddin said the government has embarked on a serious effort to create more economic opportunities in the country and generate quality human capital.     

    

He said the prime minister has launched two important initiatives, namely GTP and Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) as part of efforts to transform the country into a high income nation and improve the living standard of all Malaysians.     

"As initiatives under ETP are in place, I believe there will be enormous business and job opportunities at home for Malaysians living abroad," he said.
