Star headlined statements by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and MCA president Chua Soi Lek at the MCA annual general assembly last weekend, calling on politicians to stop branding Malaysian Chinese as ‘ pendatang '.

New Straits Times focused on Najib's speech at the MCA assembly, leading with his call for the party to be given space to voice out the needs of the Chinese community, as this will help BN in the next polls.

Both dailies also front-paged that 12 were killed when a north-bound express crashed with five vehicles near Simpang Ampat at the Negri Sembilan-Malacca border.

Berita Harian and Utusan also led with the premier's speech at the MCA event, with the former choosing to highlight his vision to turn Malaysia into a ‘world class' country.

Utusan headlined that the PM had urged MCA to double their efforts in winning back the support of the Chinese, while reminding them that all demands must be made in the context of national interest and compromise.

Sinar Harian gave prominence to Najib's statement that Chinese Malaysians are not ‘pendatang' but loyal citizens.

All three newspapers also featured the road accident in Simpang Ampat.
