Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlers today warned the government to make the appropriate replanting payments to them within three months - or face settlers camping at its doors.

Persatuan Anak Felda (Anak) said it would lead a massive entourage of settlers from all over the country to the Felda headquarters in Kuala Lumpur every week until the payments were made.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby, Anak president Mazlan NONE Aliman ( right in picture ) also warned Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Ahmad Maslan ( left ) to withdraw his statement made last week that it was pointless for the settlers to take their qualms to the court.

Ahmad, who is in charge of Felda, had said that the decision by the High Court in Kuantan ordering Felda to pay RM1,700 per acre to 10 settlers was not necessary as the court had also ruled that the settlers had to comply with Felda guidelines to get the payment

In the judgment, Justice Mariana Yahya said the 10 settlers from Felda Sg Koyan 2 and 3 were entitled to carry out replanting without going through Felda and were also entitled to RM1,700 payment per acre, if the conditions drawn up by Felda were met.

'Ahmad has hurt more than 14,000 settlers'

Mazlan was also peeved by Ahmad's statement that the land harvested by the settlers themselves was in bad condition, full of wild boars, snakes, mice and beetles.

"He (Ahmad) must withdraw his statement that has hurt more than 14,000 settlers who harvest their own plantations. If he doesn't, many police reports will be lodged all over the country," he said.

Mazlan said settlers from Gugusan Sungai Dusun in Hulu Selangor would kick off the protest.

"They were promised the payment for the replanting done during the Hulu Selangor by-election, but Felda failed to follow through with this," he said.

He also urged Ahmad to probe into claims made by several Felda settlements with rubber tree plantations - including Felda Kepis in Kuala Pilah, Felda Raja Alias 2, Felda Lui Selatan and Felda Triang 3 in Bera - where the settlers were not allowed to tap the rubber trees on their own.
