The Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) wants the Home Ministry to thoroughly investigate last Saturday's road crash which claimed the life of Batu Sapi MP Edmund Chong Ket Wah.

Its chairman Tiong King Sing, who led a BNBBC group to pay their last respects to Chong in Kota Kinabalu today, said they were not convinced by the many explanations on the cause of the crash.

He said the group intended to write a letter to Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein tomorrow, for a thorough probe.

Tiong was speaking to reporters when met at the Fook Lu Siew funeral parlour here today.

Chong, 54, was killed in a road accident when his motorcycle collided with a Mercedez Benz car along Jalan Coastal, Tanjung Aru at 11.40am.

Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan, who was also present at the funeral parlour, said Chong was considered as having died on duty as he had gone to the Kota Kinabalu airport to collect his flight ticket to attend the Dewan Rakyat sitting this week.

Meanwhile, Tiong said they were looking into concerns voiced by Chong's widow Linda Tsen Thau Lin,  on their children's education.

"Most importantly, we want to make sure the children complete their education... we will discuss the matter with the prime minister," he added.

Ten MPs and a senator arrived in two private jets from Kuala Lumpur about 3.30pm, to pay their last respects.

Among those present were Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong, Sri Gading MP Mohamed Aziz, Maran MP Ismail Abd Muttalib, Arau MP Ismail Kasim, Gelang Patah MP Tan Ah Eng, Batang Sadong MP Nancy Shukri, Sabak Bernam MP Abdul Rahman Bakri, Putatan MP Marcus Mojigoh and Senator Pau Chiong Ung.

The funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday at Basil Church, Likas at 9am before burial at the Chinese cemetery at Mile 5, Jalan Tuaran.

It is understood that Chong's three daughters are returning from Australia tomorrow. He is also survived by a 13-year-old son.
