The Education Ministry has no plans to introduce the constitution as a subject as it is already covered by the school curricula.

Deputy Education Minister Mohd Puad Zarkashi told the Dewan Rakyat that its elements were included in subjects like history, civics and nationhood and moral studies.

He said in history, form five students were exposed to the constitution's background based on events via the theme ' Pembinaan Negara dan Bangsa ke Arah Kemunculan Negara Malaysia Berdaulat '.

"It discusses efforts toward an independent and sovereign state and race," he said in reply to a question by Mujahid Yusof Rawa (PAS-Parit Buntar) who asked whether the constitution would be introduced in secondary schools.

Puad said the Malaysian constitution was also applied in civics and nationhood, the core subject for secondary school students.

    

The constitution's basic components were applied in theme 5 "Malaysia A Sovereign Nation" with topics like constitutional monarchy, main provisions, its importance and the role and responsibility of citizens in a democratic government and a parliamentary democratic system.

For non-Muslims, the constitution's basics were stressed in moral studies via topics like human rights, children's rights, women's rights, protecting consumers and democratic values like upholding the law, freedom of speech and religious belief.

Puad said human rights were also applied in primary and secondary schools via civics and nationhood with topics like future challenges, respecting the rights of others, regulations and laws in society and living in a society.
