104,000 new voters register in second half of last year

Election Commission secretary Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said today that the commission has registered 104,000 new voters within the last half of 2002 and the rolls will be gazetted o­n Feb 24.

He said the new registrations brought the number of registered voters to over 10 million nationwide, as compared to some 9.9 million as of Dec 31, 2001.

Seventy-five per cent of the new registrations were made at Pos Malaysia's counters, according to a Bernama report.

."This shows that the voter registration exercise held through Pos Malaysia counters and mobile EC counters are running smoothly and successful .
