Police have started investigating into an individual’s Facebook posting which insulted the Sultan of Johor over the ruler’s gift of vehicles to the Royal Malaysian Police.

Johor police chief Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the investigation was initiated after police received a report on the offending Facebook posting lodged at 4.33pm yesterday at the Johor Baharu South district police headquarters.

“We ensure that we will investigate this social networking page which contained false information. If there is an element of sedition found during the investigation, we will refer the case to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for further action,” he told reporters in Johor Baru today.

The posting accused Sultan Ibrahim of robbing the people’s money by giving 11 cars and eight high-powered motorcycles recently for use by the police.

Mohd Mokhtar said to avoid detection by the authorities, the individual  responsible for the offending posting had placed a picture of a 21-year-old woman on the Facebook page.

On another case in which someone had impersonated the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, also through Facebook , Mohd Mokhtar said the investigation papers had recently been forwarded to the deputy public prosecutor.
