New Straits Times and the Star reported on Prime Minister and Umno president Najib Abdul Razak’s speech at the party’s 61st general assembly, which resonated assurance that the special rights of the Malays and bumiputeras are safeguarded in the constitution and there is no need to get tangled in debates on the matter.

Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian also focussed on the Umno assembly, with similar assertions by Najib that the social contract which was agreed upon before independence will continue to be intact and no one can threaten the special privileges of the Malays.   

Sinar Harian meanwhile highlighted an excerpt of Najib’s speech at the general assembly promising to defend Putrajaya or BN’s administration of the country at all costs.

New Straits Times discussed Umno Women’s wing chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s speech motivating women to target for political positions traditionally held by men. It also talked about the difficulties faced by women to break through the elusive glass ceiling without the necessary political will.

Berita Harian in its analysis said that the essence of the prime minister’s speech at the general assembly was to assure that all races are protected under the social contract and the constitution. It also advised those with special privileges accorded by the constitution not to abuse their privileges.
