The Batu Sapi by-election media centre located at the ground floor of Sanbay Hotel, Bandar Leila in Sandakan will begin operations officially on Sunday.

Mohd Kaya Uggoh, a spokesman of its secretariat, told Bernama in Sandakan today that the centre was already up and was currently in the process of registering accredited media personnel.

Manned by a staff of 12, the centre has a working area, conference room, computers, wi-fi, telephones and facsimile and will operate from 8am till midnight daily until Nov 4, the polling day of the by-election.

Nomination is on Tuesday.

The by-election is being called following the death of its incumbent, Edmund Chong Ket Wah, 54, in a road accident on Oct 9.
