The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) has obtained a judgment in default in its defamation suit against the publisher and printer of PKR mouthpiece Suara Keadilan .
The order was made by the Kuala Lumpur High Court today by Justice Zabariah Mohd Yusof in chambers.
This was after the publisher, Pelita Koridor Sdn Bhd, and printer, Percetakan NPK Sdn Bhd, had failed to enter a notice of appearance.
The other defendants, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her deputy Syed Husin Ali, and the others had filed their notice of appearance to appoint their lawyers.
An article in the June 23-29 issue of the publication had claimed that Felda is bankrupt.
The agency filed a RM200 million defamation suit , after failing to get a response to its letter of demand.
The Home Ministry has since refused to renew Suara Keadilan ’s publishing permit.
The defamation suit, filed under Felda and Felda Global Ventures Holdings Sdn Bhd, named six respondents including Wan Azizah and Syed Husin as the first and second respondents.
The suit also named Suara Keadilan publisher Pelita Koridor Sdn Bhd, printer Percetakan NPK Sdn Bhd, editor Dzulkarnain Taib and journalist Rusnizam Mahat as the third to sixth respondents.
Felda has further sought an injunction against the respondents from repeating the allegations, as well as a public written apology that will be published in newspapers and magazines.
Felda is represented by lawyer Firoz Hussein Ahmad Jamaluddin.
