State gov't open to advice, criticism - Taib

So long as they are genuine and constructive, the Sarawak Government is always open to advice and criticism from the people.

Nevertheless, Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud ( right ) noted that there were individuals and groups who hurled critisms, merely to nit-pick.

Speaking at a community leader development seminar in Mukah today, he said that among others, such groups had blamed the state government for the floods in Sibu, and the low water level in Belaga due to the impoundment of the Bakun hydro dam.

"But all these are caused by nature, and the government has no control over the rain," said Abdul Taib.

On the implementation of development plans and programmes, he said the state government welcomed input from the people if they were found to be worthy.

"But then again, there will be those who will reject them without really making an honest effort to understand the rationale, objectives or the benefits arising from their implementation.

"Worse, they will try to instigate others to join them," he said, adding that community leaders should play their part in leading and guiding the people.
