The Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) is confident of retaining in the next state elections all the eight seats it won in 2006, SPDP president William Mawan Ikom said today.

Nevertheless, he reminded all the SPDP assemblypersons to work hard in the service of the people and not become complacent.

"We are confident of achieving 100 percent success (in retaining the seats) but we should work hard to ensure that the people continue to support the BN," he told reporters at a youth development programme in Kampung Jagoi near Kuching.

Mawan also advised voters in constituencies represented by the SPDP not to be fooled by issues raised by certain quarters to weaken and disunite the party.

The term of the 71-seat Sarawak legislative assembly ends in the middle of next year. The BN component parties hold 62 seats.
