The fifth session of the tenth Parliament will begin tomorrow morning with a Royal Address from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

It will sit for 17 days till April 8. This wil be followed by a 10-day meeting of the Dewan Negara (Senate) from April 14-29.

A check with the website www.parlimen.gov.my at 7pm this evening, however, revealed no information about the forthcoming session.

Several MPs malaysiakini spoke to tonight said that tomorrow's business will o­nly be the opening ceremony by the king. It is possible that they may be given more information of the order of business for the parliamentary session after the opening, o­ne said.

Meanwhile, the opposition PAS will table an emergency motion o­n Iraq.

Clear stand

Its acting president Abdul Hadi Awang, who is the Opposition Leader, said his party had a clear stand o­n the issue in that it opposed the US plan to attack Iraq led by President Saddam Hussein if it failed to destroy all weapons of mass destruction within the stipulated period (by March 17).

"We reject and strongly oppose the resolution being proposed by the US,

Britain and Spain o­n the issue of Iraq. They are not heeding the report of the UN weapons inspectors led by Hans Blix and Mohamaed ElBaradei," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Abdul Hadi however said the contents of the motion would o­nly be announced to the media o­n the day it was tabled and this had not been fixed as yet.

DAP national national chairperson Lim Kit Siang urged parliament to give priority to three important debates o­n Iraq War, dengue epidemic and NAM when it meets for a 18-day session.

He called for an all-out nationwide dengue alert as the current dengue epidemic is the worst in the nation's history.

On the Iraq crisis, Lim said that the Malaysian Parliament has the opportunity to become the first parliament in the world to spearhead international opinion by an unanimous vote to reject the March 17 ultimatum and any unilateral United States-led war o­n Iraq without UN sanction.

White Paper

On the recent Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit, he said that a White Paper should be presented in parliament o­n the summit (stating its actual costs, which had been estimated as ranging from RM200 million to RM1 billion; explanation why the Kuala Lumpur Declaration had failed to address the urgent issues of democracy, human rights, rule of law, war against corruption, good governance in the 116-member nations; and why NAM has issued a Final Document which nobody has noticed with no single newspaper even in Malaysia printing a single word).

On the parliament website, www.parlimen.gov.my , the DAP chief described it as a classic example of the "First World Infrastructure, Third World Mentality" afflicting Malaysia and stunting national potentials and capabilities to achieve Vision 2020 objectives of a fully developed nation.

He said he visited the site this afternoon and discovered an absolute lack of information about tomorrow's royal opening of parliament, the Royal Address from the Throne or about the forthcoming parliamentary meetings - no order of business, no information about parliamentary questions, motions or bills which will be debated by MPs in the forthcoming meeting.

"The Malaysian parliament website does not breathe life but exudes decay and death with useless and dead information such as the times and dates of the parliament sittings", Lim added in his statement.
