Those whose social, political or religious activities are detrimental to Sarawak or its people are not welcome to the state, Deputy Chief Minister George Chan said today.   

He cited an example where irresponsible non-government organisations had distorted the facts to paint a wrong picture that the existence of the orang utan was endangered by the oil palm industry to get the West to boycott the industry.   

The state tourism and heritage minister said wild allegations were also hurled by such quarters against the Penan and the timber industry.   

Nevertheless, Chan said, “the state government welcomed bona fide tourists, businessmen and investors who were sincere in contributing towards the well-being of Sarawak and its people," he said during his winding-up speech for his ministry in the state legislative assembly sitting here.   

In the political arena, he said, opposition parties from outside were introducing a different political culture that were alien to the people while its opposition state assemblymen were openly against the motion to call for the government to come up with a white paper on matters that might jeopardise Sarawak unity and security.
