Gerakan is in no hurry to implement a leadership succession plan as it will be discussed at a suitable time.
Deputy president Chang Ko Youn said the focus should be made on making early preparations for the general election.
“The position of Dr Koh Tsu Koon as Gerakan president was explained at the party assembly last week. As such, it is premature to talk about a succession plan,” he said at a “Jasa Mu di Kenang” function at Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Poi Lam in Ipoh today.
Chang told reporters that Koh said was committed in leading Gerakan for two terms and would relinquish the post earlier if a successor was found.
Koh’s explanation was enough to convince Gerakan to focus on praparing for the general election.
“Priority will be given to identifying candidates in all the states and preparing a list for the party leadership,” he added.
