PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said today the party needs to garner more support from the Malays in order to take over the federal government.

He said this was because political strength in the country was in the hands of Malays, including Umno members.

hulu selangor by-election nomination 170410 hadi awang "We (PAS) cannot entirely depend on our members, we also need the votes of non-members including from Umno," he said when opening a ‘PAS ganti Umno’ (PAS replaces Umno) seminar in Shah Alam today.

As such, he said, PAS needed to be more open in its approach and persuade non-members to accept PAS in the quest (take over the federal government).

He added that PAS would be fielding more younger candidates in the next election and would be contesting in non-Malay areas that it was confident of winning.
