The Selangor government will seek to recover the RM150,000 deposit paid in advance to the organiser of the cancelled Yayasan Selangor 40th Anniversary luncheon.

NONE However, Yayasan Selangor general manager Ilham Marzuki subsequently clarified that only 50 percent of the total cost, or RM150,000 was paid out in advance.

The move may meet with resistance from the organiser as deposits for events are in most cases non-returnable.

The extravagant cost of the dinner became a controversy after Selangor Sultan Sharifuddin Idris Shah refused to attend the luncheon, saying that it is a waste of funds which should instead be channelled to the poor.

The matter also became political ammunition for state Umno liaison deputy chief Noh Omar, who attacked the state government.
