A police report was lodged in Penang today on the controversial SMS calling for an anti-DAP rally by allegedly disgruntled Indian members at the party's headquarters in Jalan Talipon.

State DAP committee member A. Krishnan, whose name was indirectly implicated in the SMS, said the message circulating was defamatory as it touched on the creation of the party's proposed Indian bureau.

"It implicates me and is clearly divisive in nature. I wish to state categorically that I have no involvement in circulating the said SMS, which has as a consequence tarnished my name," said Krishnan, in a statement today.

"I also express my full support for the party leadership in this matter. I urge the police to bring to book those responsible for circulating such malicious messages," he added.

However, the message had obviously failed as only a few journalists and some special branch officers turned up this morning showed.

DAP Socialist Youth state executive committee member Satees Muniandy had dismissed the text message yesterday as a plan by racist elements out to tarnish the party's reputation.

The rally was believed to have been planned following the recent defeat of Indian DAP leader M Kulasegaran in Perak's party elections, and ahead of the party's Penang convention in December, where several leaders are expected to lose their posts.

Krishan, when contacted yesterday, totally denied any involvement in the affair and pledged his support for the party.

Meanwhile, DAP organising secretary Koay Teng Hai said that SMS smacked of sabotage aimed at bringing ill repute to the party in Penang.

Koay, ( below ) who is Pulau Tikus assemblyperson, said the party leadership will not take the matter lightly and will monitor the situation seriously."So far, we still do not know who was behind the messages and their motive," he told reporters today.

"We don't know whether they are our political rivals or some people out to target certain leaders," he added.

"Anyway, this irresponsible SMS has created a certain kind of racial tension," he said. Koay said Pakatan Rakyat and the DAP were growing in strength, therefore, such attacks were ‘normal'.

On the issue of an Indian bureau within the party, Koay said that the party was planning to restructure it.

"We will let the new state committee handle the matter, so this could not be the issue (why the SMS was circulating)," he said.
