Anwar lashes out at former party colleague

Anonymous: Thank God that Zaid Ibrahim lost the Hulu Selangor by-election otherwise the damage will be bigger. I respect Anwar Ibrahim for his fighting spirit, never say die attitude and he is the only Malay Umno is really scared of.

Look at the way all the BN-controlled TV channels, radio and newspapers team up with Zaid to attack Anwar. BN and Zaid are real cowards because there is no chance for Anwar to defend himself through these channels.

KSN: Anwar, do you mean you will not tolerate anyone criticising you and Azmin Ali? Zaid did not criticise PKR, he criticised you, Azmin and the like. He said the party should look beyond you.

Azmin must have been very loyal to you, there is no question about that. But is that the qualification and criteria you look for in a successor? Does Azmin have the intellect, the knowledge, the leadership qualities and the vision to lead the nation should you be found guilty and sent to jail? Or if Pakatan Rakyat wins the election?

That was what Zaid was referring to. Why did you not come out early and address the election hanky-panky and the complaints in a transparent manner? I don't care who is the PKR deputy president, whether it's Zaid or Azmin, or anybody else. We want BN out.

But you and PKR have, it seems, forfeited that right. You cannot hold the party together. How can you hold DAP, PAS and the country together?

King Solomon: Does anyone realise that these things which have been said about Zaid were said by Umno about Anwar once upon a time. I wish someone could see beyond the obvious and not dwell on demonising Zaid. Be honest with yourselves - some things Zaid had said touched raw nerves because there was some truth in them.

FAZ: Let the ghost of Zaid go. There is no need to rub salt into the wound. Most of us know the fight will be between Umno-BN and Pakatan Rakyat, and the likes of Zaid with his correct but outlandish aims will not make an iota of difference.

I wish Anwar were more of a statesman. Perhaps because he was addressing a PKR crowd, he needed to take a more robust stand. Zaid is history. I'll give the man respect for old time's sake as his current ideas are utopian, beyond the practical reach of the present political environment.

Fido Dido: Anwar, people can see that you strongly support Azmin. Are you scared that Azmin will open up a can of worms like Ezam Mohd Noor? Why call Zaid a Trojan horse and traitor? Thank God, it all started with the fraudulent PKR electoral system followed by mudslinging until Zaid had to withdraw the contest. Is that not humiliating enough for Zaid?

Terus: Who among us dare lay claim that he or she is perfect or that the party is above all scandals? PKR is comparatively young when compared with the other parties, BN components or PAS and DAP.

Of course, PKR leaders have problems but what is important is their ability to stick together and resolve them rather than being loose cannons who are only good in shooting off their big mouths and demanding this and that.

Zaid and several of those PKR big mouths rightfully should leave and it will be a good blessing to PKR and Pakatan.

Truth: When PKR enticed BN leaders to cross over, they say good things about them. When they're not so happy, they call them BN Trojan horses, traitors, etc. Everything is about what Anwar says. Anwar is always right. Only those without brains swing left and right in accordance to Anwar's tune.

Soapbox: Zaid has muddied the water but now the opposition water is getting clearer. I believe that PKR has a lot of reforming to do. After all, it has been 13 years. Zaid has proven without a doubt that he is not a reformer but good only at jumping on the bandwagon of reform and trying to take the credit from it. He certainly has shown that he has no staying power.

PKR has to take stock and remember that vested interests will stifle renewal from within. Once the warlords start taking control, reform-minded members will leave.

Good men: The point isn't whether Zaid is grateful or ungrateful. The point is, his actions show he is not what he claimed to be. He claimed to be fighting for the people, he claimed BN was bad, he said he was against BN, now he does everything possible to discredit the only credible opposition we have. He is trying to persuade as many as he can that PKR is not fit to govern, which is just another way of endorsing a continuation of BN.

Anonymous: I can't see anything wrong with what Zaid has said, other than that he said things that were bold, direct and blatant and which were opposed to what Anwar had said. Anwar is always so careful with his words and it is difficult to see his stand clearly.

Let Zaid say whatever he wants - let him commit, then we'll see whether he is serious and sincere about doing what he said. Be patient. In not too long a time, maybe a year or two, we'll see things clearer.

Yobama: Utusan Malaysia had a field day yesterday, TV3 had it the night before, hailing Zaid as a hero for quitting PKR and for condemning Anwar and other PKR leaders. Umno and Utusan must be rejoicing on seeing Zaid take more potshots at PKR leaders after his announcement of resignation from the party.

I agree with Anwar and his colleagues in PKR that the man of the day is really an ungrateful person. He was given the right to contest a parliamentary seat, which he lost; he was made 'coordinator' of party affairs, given an important task to chart the journey of reform; but he wanted more - to be No 2.

And when it became clear he was not going to win, he started making allegations of electoral fraud. When he was leading, he saw no fraud. What kind of leader is this? Yesterday, he was given a hero's treatment on the front-page of Utusan Malaysia when it is the party policy to boycott the newspaper.

Clearly he has not understood what party discipline is. PKR should sack him.
