The feasibility study on high speed bullet train connecting Malaysia and Singapore will be carried out starting January next year, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Idris Jala.

He said results of the study would then be presented to the cabinet for further deliberation.

"We will do the feasibility based on the original submission by several companies which have done the early works.

"By middle of next year, if we are okay with it we will approach the Singapore government," he said during question and answer session at the 29th Majeca-Jameca joint conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said if the project was seen feasible, the government would approach the Singapore government to get their approval and begin talks on modality for the project.

On the mass rapid transit project in the Klang Valley, Jala said the government was finalising the design details especially in ensuring the network connections in terms of both connecting existing routes and linking together business destinations.

"We will then present it to the Economic Council and the cabinet, and expect to finalise it before end of this year," he said.

Idris said physical works for the project would likely start in the middle of next year.

He said some of the works would be parcelled out for competitive tender.
